Hastings United V Carshalton Athletic - Sat 3rd Sept 2011 Pre Match ReportI’m, Roger Sinden here at the Pilot Field where Hastings United entertain Carshalton Athletic Last night’s England international means that there is no Premiership Programme this afternoon, leaving space across the country for Non League day. Football supporters facing a blank Saturday are encouraged to visit their local non league club at discounted admission prices. Hastings entertain free spending Carshalton Athletic and hopefully might attract some neutrals looking for their Saturday football fix. Last Saturday Hastings were badly beaten by 5-0 at Bury, but came back to share the spoils at home to Margate in a four goal thriller. Goal scorers for Hastings were Fred Foreman, with an excellent free kick and a header from Josh Jirbandey, with both sides reduced to 10 men in the second half. With a win and a draw from their opening four fixtures this young Hastings side must pick up points at every opportunity to stay away from the drop zone, and without the holidaying Jack Dixon and the injured Jack Walder, will need to work hard if they are to get anything from this afternoon’s match. Whilst they are capable of playing some attractive football this youthful side look a little lightweight up front and tend to get overrun in mid field. United also say good bye to Assistant Manager Adam Hinshelwood , who takes up a role with non league Selsey, somewhat closer to home Match Report
Hastings United ( 0 ) Carshalton Athletic (2 ) Hastings United were well beaten by ten men Carshalton Athletic, who despite their numerical disadvantage, never really looked in danger. Perhaps the major difference between the two sides is that Carshalton Athletic possessed a genuine proven goal scorer in Dean McDonald. He grabbed a brace, and only a late smart save by Anderson denied him a hat trick. Carshalton took the lead on 15 minutes through somewhat fortunate circumstances. McDonald’s free kick from 20 odd yards took a wicked deflection from the defensive wall, wrong footing Anderson who could only palm the ball into the roof of the net. Tom Davis had already been cautioned earlier in the half and when he went down on the edge of the area, a penalty against United was a possibility. The referee deemed that Davis had dived, and with a second caution ensuing, was dismissed. Just before the interval Hastings had a golden opportunity when a weak wayward pass set up Hopkinson with only goalkeeper Hamann to beat. He delayed his shot, and the chance was gone. The game drifted away with the result never in doubt Roger Sinden at the Pilot Field for Hospital Radio Hastings where it finished |
